Steven Kaster MD, MBA is a physician executive, healthcare operator, and strategic advisor who has spent more than two decades at the intersection of clinical medicine, enterprise leadership, and healthcare value creation. As Principal of Catalina Consulting Group, he partners with health systems, physician organizations, and healthcare investors to develop and execute strategies that drive value across the care continuum — spanning ambulatory and ASC development, physician alignment, service line integration, and private equity-backed healthcare ventures.
Dr. Kaster brings a perspective that is rare in healthcare innovation circles: he has built and led organizations at virtually every point along the care delivery spectrum. As a gastroenterologist and founder, he has delivered frontline specialty care. As a Chief Medical Officer at HCA Healthcare, he led hospitals generating hundreds of millions in annual revenue, drove measurable quality transformation, and grew surgical programs through deliberate physician recruitment and technology adoption, generating $2.4M in EBITDA growth through robotic surgery expansion alone. He understands what innovation looks like from the exam room, the boardroom, and the operating suite.
His experience spans the full payer-provider landscape. Having operated across multiple value-based care models — from full-risk capitated arrangements serving Medicare Advantage populations to payer-designed advanced primary care platforms — he has worked at the fault line where primary and specialty care meet, and where value-based models most consistently break down. He held full P&L responsibility for a nine-site advanced primary care platform, designing enterprise dashboards and population health infrastructure that bridged clinical performance with financial accountability.
